Is it true that unknown third parties can just barge into a Zoom meeting I'm hosting? (Zoom bombing)

Basically, anyone who knows the link and password can participate in a Zoom Meeting. In the case of publicly advertised events, it can happen that people participate who want to disrupt the Zoom Meeting (keyword zoom bombing).

To prevent such situation, there are several setting options. Among other things, you can:

  • use the "waiting room" function,
  • lock the meeting after it has started,
  • Revoke the participants' right to use the video camera or microphone,
  • Revoke the participants' right to "share screen".

These settings can be found while the meeting is in progress by clicking the "Security" button in the Zoom toolbar.

Additional settings can be found in your Zoom account(https://unibas.zoom.us) under "Settings -> In Meeting (Basics)".

Links to Zoom meetings should never be made openly available on websites, but should be sent by email or provided in protected environments (ADAM workspace).
