End-to-end encryption (end-to-end encryption) with ZOOM

Zoom offers full end-to-end encryption as a preview functionality. This functionality must be explicitly activated for a scheduled meeting. We do not recommend using encryption across the board, but only for sensitive content, as the functionality of the meeting will be restricted. In addition, it should be noted that only the content of the meeting is encrypted, but not, for example, the title of the meeting or the list of meeting participants.

To participate in an encrypted Zoom meeting, you need Zoom Client version 5.4.0 or higher.

When using end-to-end encryption, the following meeting options are not supported:

  • Third party accounts (non-Unibasel) can only join an encrypted meeting if they have purchased a Zoom license or have a phone number on file.
  • Meetings with a maximum of 200 people
  • Join before host
  • Cloud Recording
  • Live Transcription
  • Breakout Rooms
  • Polling
  • 1:1 Private Chat
  • Meeting reactions
  • Zoom Web Client
  • Call in via telephone or Voice over IP devices (SIP/H.323 devices)
  • Streaming (to Youtube and Facebook)
