Can I use Zoom to have confidential conversations?

The use of video conferencing platforms for confidential conversations mandatorily requires the use of end-to-end encryption (also called "end-to-end encryption or E2EE). Zoom offers this feature as of November 2020.

To note:

  • in Zoom, you need to "schedule" a meeting and enable end-to-end encryption in the settings before the meeting starts
  • your conversation partner may need to have their own user account on the platform
  • only the content of the conversation is encrypted, but not the participant information and the title of the meeting
  • There are technical limitations to encrypted meetings - seethis Zoom support articlefor more information.
