The University of Basel (Unibas) attaches great importance to the protection of personal data. Personal data is any data that can be related to you personally, e.g. name, address, e-mail, telephone number, photo, user behaviour, IP address, etc.

The purpose of this privacy statement is to inform you of the data that IT Services collects from you as a user of the its.unibas.ch website, the purposes for which this data is processed and disclosed, and the measures that Unibas takes to ensure the security of this data. In addition, we inform you of the rights to which you are entitled by means of this data protection declaration.

In addition, the University of Basel complies with the European Data Protection Regulation (DSGVO), which may be applicable, and states the relevant legal basis for this case in each case, in accordance with Art. 13 Para. 1 lit c DSGVO.

Apart from access data, no personal data is collected.

Through this, we automatically receive certain data such as the IP address, browser used, operating system and your connection to the Internet. The use of cookies increases the user-friendliness and security of the website. You can use your browser settings to see which cookies have been set by the its.unibas.ch website and delete them if necessary.

For security reasons, e.g. in order to be able to clarify cases of abuse and to secure our network infrastructure, so-called access data, which are automatically collected when the website its.unibas.ch is accessed, are stored in a web server log file on servers of the University of Basel for a period of 4 months. In the event of an attack on our network infrastructure, longer-term storage may be necessary for reasons of evidence and for possible civil or criminal prosecution of the attacker.

The following access data is collected:

  • Time at the time of access
  • browser used
  • operating system used
  • IP address

On the website easyweb.unibas.ch, the web analysis component Matomo is integrated in cooperation with the company Ops One.

Web analysis (tracking) is the collection, compilation and analysis of data about the behavior of users of the website. Among other things, a web analysis tool collects data on which website a person came to a website from (so-called referrer), which subpages of the website were accessed or how often and for how long a subpage was viewed. A web analysis is used to optimize a website.

OpenStreetMap

In order to display an interactive map and to create directions, we integrate the maps of the "OpenStreetMap" service(https://www.openstreetmap.de), which are offered by the OpenStreetMap Foundation (OSMF) on the basis of the Open Data Commons Open Database License (ODbL).

To our knowledge, the data of the users are used by OpenStreetMap exclusively for the purpose of displaying the map functions and temporarily storing the selected settings. This data may include, in particular, IP addresses and location data of users, which, however, are not collected without their consent (usually executed in the context of the settings of their mobile devices).

You have the option to deactivate the service of OpenStreetMaps and thus prevent the transfer of data to OpenStreetMaps by deactivating JavaScript in your browser. However, we would like to point out that in this case you will not be able to use the map display on our website.

The OpenStreetMap privacy policy can be found at https://wiki.osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy.

The data may be processed in the USA. Further information can be found in the OpenStreetMap privacy policy: https://wiki.osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy.
