To create a personal "SWITCH edu-ID", use the following instructions:

Prerequisites

The following is required to create the "SWITCH edu-ID":

A private e-mail address (the Unibas e-mail address is not useful, because Switch should accompany you for life - the University of Basel may not be mandatory).

Procedure

Open the Viaweb portal at https://viaweb.unibas.ch

Click on the tile for the linking service

Click on the "SWITCH edu-ID Linking Service" tile.

The "SWITCH edu-ID Linking Service" will open. Read the information and then click on "Next".

You will now be redirected to SWITCH edu-id.

I do not yet have a "SWITCH edu-ID" account: To create a personal "SWITCH edu-ID", proceed as follows:

Requirements:

A private e-mail address

Procedure

Enter your personal e-mail address in the "E-mail" field and then select "Create account".

Fill in the registration form and follow the further steps described on the page.

Thanks to the existing registrations with Switch and the University of Basel, the accounts can now be linked

After successfully logging in or creating a SWITCH edu-ID account, you will be redirected and asked to link the university account with the SWITCH edu-ID.

Switch edu-ID is now successfully linked to the University of Basel

Your SWITCH edu-ID account is now linked to the University of Basel.

You can log out.

Prerequisites

You must know the username and password of your "SWITCH edu-ID" account
You must know the username and password of your University of Basel account (e.g. muster001). The details can be found on the master data sheet or can be looked up on the viaweb portal

Procedure

Go to the Unibasel "SWITCH edu-ID" Linking Service of the University of Basel: https://viaweb.unibas.ch.

Start the Switch edu-ID Linking Service module.

Click on the "SWITCH edu-ID Linking Service" tile.

Switch edu-ID linking instructions are displayed in the viaWeb.

The "SWITCH edu-ID Linking Service" will open. Read the information and then click on "Next".

You will be asked for your Switch edu-ID login details.

I already have a "SWITCH edu-ID" account

If you already have a SWITCH edu-ID account, enter your e-mail address in the window and select "Login".

Linking of accounts is reported

After successfully logging in or creating a SWITCH edu-ID account, you will be redirected and asked to link the university account with the SWITCH edu-ID.

Switch edu-ID is now successfully linked to the University of Basel

Your SWITCH edu-ID account is now linked to the University of Basel.

You can log out.

A confirmation message will be sent to the e-mail address stored in your SWITCH edu-ID account that the organizational identity unibas.ch has been added.
